Announcing She Should Run 2008!

One year ago we were brainstorming ways to use the power of the web to encourage more women to run for office. She Should Run was born—and just months after launching you told us about more than 1,000 qualified pro-choice leaders who you think should run.

We are overjoyed by this overwhelming success.  She Should Run earned a Pollie Award, but more importantly, helped us identify an incredibly dynamic group of potential candidates:

- From teachers to physicians to attorneys, last year’s She Should Run nominees come from over 40 states and represent women just getting started in their professional lives to women with over 20 years of experience

- Over 80% have never run for office before but more than two-thirds say they are more likely to run because of this campaign
A few of our nominees are already running for office this year!

How has WCF helped?  Your nominees asked for connections to civic leaders and we responded!  With your nominee’s permission, we passed her name and contact information along to her local state party. 

They asked for resources about how to get started. We created and distributed a guide to getting started in public life tailored for their needs. 

They asked for access to new information on a regular basis. We’ve committed to distribute a monthly She Should Run alumni newsletter packed with tips and advice on making the decision to run.

But we can’t stop here.  We know there are thousands more women all across the country who are qualified and ready to lead, yet they aren’t seriously considering public life. 

We set a new goal of finding 1,500 additional pro-choice women who should run for office and we need your help.
