Esther, Gloria, and Linda Should Run
Jaime M. from Des Moines, Iowa, has a message for her mom Esther: She should run for the School Board.
Laura S. from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has a message for her friend Gloria: She should run for Mayor of Pittsburgh.
Katherine N. from Littleton, Colorado, has a message for her mom Linda: She should run for the State Legislature.
These women and many more have been nominated to run for public office through the Women's Campaign Forum She Should Run project. Our goal is to gather the nominations of 1,000 pro-choice women for elected office and bring balance to our government from the local to the national level.
Once nominated, these women will receive the support they need for success. Women's Campaign Forum will help these candidates develop their campaign skills and connect them to the resources necessary for a successful campaign.
In every community, there are countless talented, successful women leaders who would make excellent candidates. But research shows that most women won't run for office unless someone asks them to.
Because of the She Should Run campaign, Jaime, Laura, and Katherine nominated women in their lives to run for office. Here are a few of the reasons they gave:
According to Jaime, her mom Esther
should run for office first and foremost because she would never think of running for office. Her core decency, her cheerfulness, her strength, her intelligence and her organizational skills all would make her an amazing candidate for almost any elected position, but her experience lends itself to at least a school board seat. The world would be a better place in upstate New York if Esther was serving in public office.
Laura nominated her friend Gloria because
she's a mother, community leader and organizer, supporter for other women in politics, well-organized, honest, smart, and very knowledgeable about politics.
And Katherine says about her mom:
Not only is my mother Linda an awesome single mom, but she spends every waking moment dedicated to helping others instead of herself. She has been volunteering in the Democratic Party for years and deserves the spotlight just as much as the people she got into office. For someone so loving to give their time and energy for a better and more equal world is amazing, but my mother thinks that's just what everyone should do.
With the She Should Run campaign, these women and 997 others will have the opportunity to become the public leaders they were always meant to be.
