The Next Step

Time and time again we have been incredibly impressed with the amazing women who have been nominated to run for office as part of the She Should Run campaign.

Thanks to She Should Run - and their friends and family who nominated them - many of the nearly 800 women already nominated are seriously considering a run for office.

Sara Love, a WCF board member, has been impressed by both the quality of the nominees and the heartfelt nominations we’ve received:

I’m thrilled with the results of the She Should Run campaign so far.  This project has helped us identify hundreds of women from all walks of life who are leaders in their communities, many of whom are considering a run for office for the very first time.  These women are enthusiastic and driven, but many just don’t know where to start.  That’s why WCF is taking this momentum and inspiration to the next level.  Over the next few weeks, we are surveying these women to determine how we can best provide the support they need to get started in building successful campaigns, and we couldn’t be more excited to provide that critical support and encouragement.

Many of these women were nominated by their friends, family, and co-workers.  But some women heard about our efforts to recruit outstanding pro-choice women to run for office and stepped up to the plate themselves.

Take Debra, for instance.

Debra is a speech language pathologist and has worked in special education for her entire career.  She’s also extremely active in local politics and was the founder and president of a local Democratic club.  She thought her combined experience in education and politics would make her a great candidate for the local school board - and we couldn’t be more thrilled with her nomination!  We look forward to working with her as she takes the next step in gearing up for a campaign.

Other women like Debra are coming from all walks of life: partners at law firms, teachers, nurses, businesswomen, and mothers. And each of these nominees brings her own unique perspective on serving in public office.
