Special Guest Bios

Carolyn Dorfman

Artistic Director/Choreographer,
Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company

Since founding her Company in 1982, Ms. Dorfman has created more than 50 works for CDDC and achieved a highly respected position among artists and arts institutions regionally and nationally. She received her BFA in Dance with certification to teach K-12 from the University of Michigan and her MFA from New York University Tisch School for the Arts. A former Assistant Professor of Dance at Centenary College, she uses her collective experiences as a master artist/teacher, leading residencies and master classes for both the professional dancer and those new to the art form. She is a consultant to the Education Program at City Center, a Principal Affiliate in Arts Education for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and a member of the All Stars Artist Committee of the All Stars Project. 

Alexandra Lebenthal

Co-Founder, Alexandra & James, Inc.

Ms. Lebenthal was the former chief executive of Lebenthal & Co. She has since founded Alexandra and James, Inc., a new wealth management company that will provide investors with $2 million to $20 million in assets with a comprehensive suite of financial services including bill paying, organization of all aspects of personal financial planning, and coordination with other financial providers.

Leonard Lopate

Host, The Leonard Lopate Show, WNYC Radio

Mr. Lopate is the host of the Leonard Lopate Show, a public radio talk show broadcast on WNYC.  Mr. Lopate’s show which features writers, actors, dancers, scientists, comedians, historians and ex-presidents. Before his career in radio, Mr. Lopate was trained as a painter, studying with Ad Reinhardt and Mark Rothko.

Secretary of State Debra Bowen

California

A pioneer in open government reform, election integrity, and personal privacy rights, Debra Bowen became only the sixth woman in California history elected to a statewide constitutional office when she was elected as Secretary of State in November 2006. Secretary Bowen is responsible for overseeing state and federal elections, ensuring election laws and campaign disclosure requirements are enforced, maintaining a statewide database of all registered voters, certifying the official lists of candidates for each election, tracking and certifying ballot initiatives, compiling election returns, and certifying the election results for all state and federal contests.

Councilwoman Melinda Katz

NYC

In 1994, Councilwoman Katz was elected to the New York State Assembly at the age of 28. In 2001, she became the councilwoman for the 29th District of the New York City Council.  She is the Chair of the Council’s Standing Committee on Land Use and a member of several other committees.

Kay Barnes

Candidate, U.S. House (MO-06)

Ms. Barnes (D) is running in Missouri’s 6th Congressional District. The former first female Mayor of Kansas City, Ms. Barnes is “meeting the challenge” on the economy; she has pledged to fight for tax relief for the middle class and working families, health care for children of these families and legislation to help boost rural economies.
