Dr. Susan Wood
Former Assistant Commissioner for Women’s Health & Director, The Office of Women’s Health, FDA
Dr. Wood is the former Assistant Commissioner for Women’s Health at the Food and Drug Administration where she directed the FDA’s Office of Women’s Health and served as the champion for women’s health inside and outside the agency. She focused on areas such as the inclusion of women in clinical studies; regulatory research on topics such as cardiovascular disease and medications used during pregnancy; and in developing outreach campaigns for women regarding menopausal hormone therapy, safe medication use and diabetes. In August 2005, Dr. Wood resigned in response to the FDA’s decision to continue delaying approval of Plan B emergency contraception, earning her national recognition for her principled stance against the politicization of science at the FDA.
Kathryn Wylde
President & CEO, Partnership for New York City
Ms. Wylde is President & CEO of the Partnership for New York City, a nonprofit organization of the city’s business leaders, established by David Rockefeller in 1979, and dedicated to maintaining New York City as a center of world commerce, finance and innovation. Ms. Wylde also serves as founding President & CEO of the New York City Investment Fund, a $110 million civic fund and the Partnership’s economic development arm. Ms. Wylde was also founding President & CEO of the Housing Partnership Development Corporation. Under her leadership, more than $2 billion in private funds were invested in public-private partnerships that produced affordable housing and commercial developments in economically distressed communities across the city.
Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz
Connecticut
Secretary Bysiewicz is Connecticut’s 72nd Secretary of the State, first elected in 1998 and then re-elected in 2002 and 2006. She previously served three terms in the state legislature from 1992 to 1998, representing the 100th Assembly District towns of Middletown, Durham and Middlefield. As Secretary of the State, among other responsibilities, Secretary Bysiewicz ensures the records and information housed in her office are accessible to all Connecticut citizens.
Chellie Pingree
Candidate, U.S. House (ME-01)
Ms. Pingree is running in Maine’s 1st Congressional District. She is “meeting the challenge” on the environment; she supports a cap-and-trade system for greenhouse gas pollution and a tax on carbon, which would encourage more rapid development of clean energy sources. She supports the renewal of the production tax credit and a renewable portfolio standard, both of which would help increase our commitment to renewable energy.
